When author Susan Kohl gave birth to identical twins Sam and Max in 1994, she was consumed with the desire to understand the unique relationship her sons would have. She discovered that, while there are many books available to help families rear twins, there was nothing quite like what she was looking for. She wanted to learn from twins themselves how to help her sons grow up to be successful, independent people while at the same time maintain and nurture their special connection.

In the summer of 2000, Susan interviewed nearly 150 twins, who ranged in age from six to eighty-six and came from very diverse backgrounds. They generously shared their very personal stories and anecdotes.

"In my book, I tried to capture this unique and mysterious bond, and to tell the world that twins are special. Along the way, I realized that the stories, as told by twins themselves, provided me with a roadmap to help my boys grow and thrive. I wanted to share that too," said Susan Kohl, author.
